Thanks for your replies. I had given up! ~Lee When it comes to modern anti-virus programs, most are almost equally effective at stopping known threats. The differences only come to the forefront when they encounter a previously unknown strain. Viruses are coded programs. Their authors have to const...

I found this useful comparison of Bitdefender vs Malwarebytes.Ian Rae wrote:Is Bitdefender in any way comparable with Malwarebytes?
The only other antivirus I've used during the last 20 years was Trend Micro. I switched to Malwarebytes around 2008.

I have been running a combination of Malwarebytes and Windows Defender on my Windows 10 PC since it was a Windows 7 PC. I built it in 2018. I have a perpetual license for Malwarebytes and can transfer it from an old machine to a new one. It is updated automatically and gets along well with Defender....

Will trade 2 LXR-16 for 2 L-710 with center taps. Wide base.
I have a good condition working pair of Lawrence LXR-16 Emmons mount pickups that I removed from my 1983 D-10 push pull in December of 2022. I installed a new pair of Emmons single coil pickups that sometimes produce too much hum to be usable in band gigs that are either mic'd, or direct XLR'd from ...

Embarrassed by my ignorance, I ask: How do I get to Windows Updates? :\ Windows Update is found through this sequence on a Windows 8 or 8.1 PC: Hover the mouse over the bottom right corner of the screen to bring up the Charms menu. You can also swipe from the right side of the screen to the left to...

I built my own computer in 2018. I used good components. However, I can't upgrade to Windows 11 because my processor isn't approved and I don't have the security module (which I would buy if the cpu was approved). So, not every Windows 10 PC can be upgraded to Windows 11. I still recommend doing wha...

If you intend to keep using that computer, you have to upgrade to Windows 10, or assume total risk of using an unsupported operating system. Today, on January 10, 2023, Windows 7 Extended Security Updates (ESU) and Windows 8.1 have reached their end of support dates. Run Windows Update and see if yo...

I have looked and found that the HP 23 series can be upgraded to a maximum of 16 gigabytes of RAM. I would recommend replacing the 4 gigs with 2 8-gig sticks. Here is your best upgrade at Crucial.

Wiz, I went from a 130 gig ss to a 1T ss. I cloned the 130 drive, put 2 partitions on the 1T, one partition is just for storage. It is 64 bit win10 pro. I was wondering if it takes more memory to run the 1T than the 130G. thanks for replying. winston may If the computer was not designed to work wit...

Upgrading a primary disk from a small size to an almost 10x larger capacity won't speed things up! How do the specs compare for seek, read and write time and latency? Did you save an image of the old drive and restore it onto the new drive? Or, is this s fresh install and reinstall of programs and s...

It's a Win 10 64-bit system with 4 gig RAM. I'm starting to see where this goes with a waning OS, and time to upgrade. Thanks again, all. You can add lots more RAM to a 64 bit os. I recently doubled mine from 16 to 32 gb. PM me if you want a link to the RAM I use. It matches what I installed when I...

Thank you, gentlemen. I'll bear these things in mind as I move forward. I use CCleaner regularly, but still the 'puter is really bogged down. I don't know how much harm a cleaning facility could be. There are a couple ways a cleaner program could cause harm to a computer. One is if while cleaning e...

I personally never disable Windows Defender after installing another anti-virus program. Defender being part of Microsoft and Windows is usually the first to receive updates for zero day exploits targeting the Windows OS. While this may not always be the case, it is worth it to leave it alone just i...

I'm not getting that warning here and I use a self built PC and a Galaxy phone. It could be your anti vurus overthinking the certificates. The way SSL certificates work is that they typically have to be renewed every three months (Let's Encrypt). Sometimes there is a temporary delay or glitch in the...
