Sorry about the quality of that video Rick. I threw it up here before checking it through. He obviously had better things to do than point the camera at the musicians on stage. I love the minute of darkness after the knee shots. Oh well, the steel guitar sounds great as does Mr. Miller. Good playing...

Hey Rick, Love those real "on-the-road" special stories and having Steve Miller and Jeff Kearns drop in for an afternoon is up there. Right on! Thanks for posting! I remember when "the Joker" came out (I thought it was '73) and it was a great album. I loved the earlier stuff, &qu...

I am enjoying this informative and somewhat controversial C6th discussion. But when it came full circle after reading all the posts, I like the opinions that there are no dated or wrong tunings for reasons. I mean, all of r&r and country music from the past is borrowed from and so many styes com...

Well done Doug! Beautiful chording and great picking! Shows that both styles can be used on the same song (in deference to the great discussion on C6th and other tunings) One of my Pa's favorite tunes. Before he passed away, he left us a cd of him singing a number of these classic tunes, and he nail...

Great Mike, I close my eyes and I see Duane and the boys doing "Statesboro Blues". Beautiful tone on your low end as Len mentioned. Then the high stuff. Nicely done. Inspirational. Trying similar stuff on my B6 in open D (or E). I'm working on a couple of Allman tunes. Can't land on the sw...

Austin show with Herb Steiner 2012

This is Herb Steiner from a not too old thread from 2012 and I'm wondering if he ever finished that instruction course or cd that was mentioned in that thread. Great playing Herb Steiner! Maestro at the jazz. Also enjoyed that old Miles Davis tune, "Freddie Freeloader." Were your feet keep...

Hey Jan, I haven't given up yet. I just have a real busy life right now and I'm still hung up on the 3rd modulation; gets pretty jazzy in there. So, I'll just put up what I have (skipping the 3rd mod for now) and then maybe you can help me. I have to get my wife (our vocalist) to help me cause she k...

All my condolences and respect to the family and friends of Bobby Seymour. I've watched a lot of youtubes with him playing so sweet. Nice viddy Andy. Kinda sets the tone and brings one close to tears realizing that that kind of talent and congeniality is no longer on the terra firma. Betcha he'll be...

HI DOUG, Welcome to the pickup and a board life. Good luck finding a steel guitar teacher in Texas. I doubt you'll have any problem with that! Must be an arroyo full of 'em! I would get Andy's little guide to string gauges and personal choices. Great book with lots of personalities giving up their s...

Awesome! Wow, I love Bach's arrangements like "Bouree" and this "Chaconne" because of their wild minors and ageless sounds. Your playing is beautiful. Where did you find the chordal tabs for this or was it learned by ear?

Close but no cigar. I see now because although octagonal and with pointer in white outline, it is too small. fits over the stem but does not clear the nut and washer. Therefore it sits a 1/4" above the metal plate. Unlike Cartrights which looks like it's flush with the body; has a deeper body. ...

1936-37 Rick volume dial

Hi forumites, Following the great advice this forum offers, I waited patiently and found what I think is the correct volume dial for this lap steel. Although advertised as a Gibson dial from the same period, it looks right and I've included the old dial, which works just fine, is bakelite and appear...

Welcome Kevin, I hadn't perused before I posted and didn't realize that there are far more than Ricks posted on this site, and, as of some time last year, as updated then, these guitars are either sold or for sale. Nor did I notice the name of the collector, a well known man in certain circles with ...

I just stumbled across this site, which shows a couple of early Rick features including an 4 chrome plate B6 numbered B-36. Really?

Fender Junior Pro - tweed

Was searching for something else and spotted this nice little amp for 300 in Michigan somewhere near Ann Arbor, where my American cousins used to live. Thought someone might be interested. Not sure of the original price. https://annarbor.craigslist.org/msg/4343241871.html http://bb.steelguitarforum....

Hey J-S, I am fairly inpressed at the sound and the price of Tremblay lap steels. The more guitar-looking one has a nice range of sound for 569.00 new. The more standard looking one has a Fender-like treble sound that sounds perfect for country/rock/alt. music. Being from the left coast of Canada (m...

HI John, Sounds like music that I like to play. I have a Rick Bakelite from 1935-37 and it is great for rock and blues. My other slide is a National Chicagoan 1954. This one has the PU known colloquially as the "Coodercaster" for its rootsy blues buzz, and I love to play it. We play some A...
