What's the deal with the foam?

Hello all, just a quick, possibly dumb, question: During my daily viewing of "steel guitars for sale" where I pretend to have money to upgrade to a better steel, I've noticed in some of the photos of the underside of certain guitars there is a chunk of foam in between the rods, sorry don't...

Will Oldham, working under the name "Bonnie Prince Billy" released the album, "Greatest Place Music" where he re-does some of his older songs using Nashville session musicians. One of them being Mike Johnson. On almost every song there seems to be a gem of steel guitar playing. A...

great stuff, gonna have to keep my eyes peeled for that record. Seems to have the qualities that made certain aspects of Southern California country-rock great: Being both kind of slick yet burned out at the same time.

I haven't been able to buy a guitar from John, yet,(lack of funds). However, I had a great conversation with him over the phone. He was extremely generous with his knowledge of the psg. Hopefully, at some point in the near future I'll be able to get my s**t together and by a steel from him.

Hey Jonny,
As always, sounds fantastic, great playing. Where is it that you guys play on Tues nights? I'll try and make it over there. Also thanks for putting me in touch with John Widgren, a great guy and his extensive knowledge of the psg helped me quite a lot.

Hey Chuck, Yeah distance does seem to be a problem with organizing steel players in and around the NY area. I live in Greenpoint Brooklyn, which, I'd say is a bit of a haul from where you are. However, maybe when the weather is nicer and we're all not being pummeled by snow, maybe something could be...

What's up with steel guitar jams?

Hello all, Being that I live in NY and there's not that big of an organized steel community, I was wondering how steel guitar jams work? I've watched some clips on youtube and understand the basics of how one works. My question is: Is a player participating in one of these jams expected to know any ...

That's a great clip, thanks. Yeah, the whole "Plantation records" thing is a strange one. I guess she probably didn't have a whole lot of options to chose from.
