David Mitchell, thanks for your input! Yeah, those cables could be, at least, in part, the cause of the whining sound; i.e., the "Fender zing," although I think it has to do more with the "knife's edge" changers. Andrew Goulet, the guitar is pretty much pristine. Or, at least, I ...

Okay. Sounds good! Thanks for the advice! This is probably a moot point now because because the seller ended the listing. Thanks, anyway!

Fender 2000 pedal steel

I'm in a quandary, in a way. There is an individual who is selling a very nice Fender 2000 pedal steel. He only lives a few hours from me. The guitar is set up as E9/C6, and even has four knees. He's asking $2,000.00 for it. Seems like a good price. There appear to be no missing parts on it, and it ...

So, this is what I originally posted on Facebook about that pic four years ago, in 2017 (see below). I actually DO remember a lot about that week even though it was almost 40 years ago! "Ouch!" LOL! I have one of those freakish memories where I can remember a lot of events, like that one, ...

Uh, Chris Templeton, that's me (Jerry Cobetto) second from the left, in the top row. Not Joe Wright! Although, I DO wish that I possessed his steel playing prowess. LOL!

That's me, second from the left, in the rear. With the Hawaiian shirt on. It was July 1982.

"Ole Red"

It would definitely be great to own a piece of steel guitar history, but there's a part of me that feels that Don Helms' Gibson Console Grande, which was on so many of Hank's tunes, AND on stage with Hank, should be in a museum, like the Hank Williams Museum.

I could write much about Red Rhodes. He was originally from my home area - St. Louis Metro-East (Illinois side of St. Louis). To be exact, Red was from East Alton, IL. I knew a few older musicians, like Jack Laux, who was also from our area, and went to L.A. about the same time as Red. Back in the m...

Len, so glad you asked that! I, myself, play sax AND steel! Sax is my primary instrument, but I've also been playing pedal steel for 35 years. I've always had a passion for the steel guitar, even though I've been playing saxophone since I was 10 years-old, and studied music with that instrument in c...

Okay. No problem! So, the bottom line is, for sure, I possess the very first Pro-III prototype (the original birds-eye/cammo Formica one) that is NOW black (after you re-finished it)? "Sweet!" Like I had said in my original post, "I love the guitar!" Also, so "neat" to ...

I recently purchased a mahogany-finished Fender Artist D-10 from Billy Cooper's shop in VA. It is a very nice guitar! [For years, I've always wanted a Sho-Bud AND a Fender pedal steel, along with the Miller that I've had for many years, and NOW I have one of each!] I love the guitar! As any of you a...

Good information, Mike! According to one of Bobbe's on-line articles about the guitars, though, he talks about him buying TWO twin-neck mica prototypes from Sho-Bud, and that the original black one went to some preacher in South Dakota. He didn't mention anything about one of the prototypes being a ...

Gosh, Mike, I'm so glad you responded! I'll try not to bombard you with too many questions about the mica "bud" (Yeah, right! LOL!) but, gotta' ask, first of all, there were two made, weren't there? According to Bobbe Seymour, one was originally made for Hal Rugg to try out, but it had a &...

Oops! I forgot to give a big shout-out (Kudos) to Mike Cass for all of his work on my Mica guitar years back. Molto grazie, Michelo! (Many thanks, Mike!)

Thanks, Skip! Funny thing, I was at Bobbe's shop (Steel Guitar Nashville - NOW Steel Guitars of Nashville), for the first time, with my wife (I had to drag her there - LOL!) when were in Nashville in August 2012. I was just there, browsing, but didn't buy the guitar yet. Not long after we were back ...
