I would also like to mention the fact that I couldn't help knowing about Doug Jernigan... He played on a gospel album that my grandfather sang on in the early 80's. I uploaded those songs to the Steel Guitar Forum. Look for a thread with Doug Jernigan's name in the subject line.

Thanks, Peter! I forgot to mention that it was 12 years ago that I discovered Gram Parsons. Since then, I have bought hundreds of classic country, Alt. Country, and Country-Rock CD's. I am familiar with all of those steel pickers, but Lloyd Green is probably my favorite out of those.

It must have been a thrill to play pedal steel in a recording session with Gram Parsons! GP wanted the steel players to go crazy on his records! :D

Gram Parsons was my next great discovery...

JayDee Maness played some ridiculous steel on this one...

It looks like you're having the same problem I had, Micky.

The browser tells you there is an error when you try to post the reply so you hit the back button and try to post it again. Correct?

That is a completely different recording. The vocal is completely different, too. I think that was recorded several years after the original recording, with Brumley playing steel on this newer version.

I should know, I have memorized the original recording.

I think there were 3 different steel players on that album... Jay McDonald, Ralph Mooney, and JayDee Maness... I'll have to dig out the liner notes and post the details here. FYI, I used to study those liner notes while I was listening to those Buck Owens CD's when I was in college. I majored in Mec...

I'll never forget how I felt when I heard the very first track on that CD, "My Heart Skips A Beat" with the Telecasters and Buck and Don's harmony! I felt like I had been searching for that sound... Then, I heard "Close Up The Honky Tonks" and it sounded so good that I wanted to ...

That was the very first Buck Owens album I bought when I was 20 years old (1997). That single CD purchase at Wal-Mart in Cullman, Alabama changed the rest of my life. I will never be the same again after hearing Ralph Mooney's pedal steel. This song was one of my favorites on the entire album, but t...

I love to hear Neil Flanz on the album Gram Parsons & Fallen Angels Live 1973. That's a good album to listen to on a rainy night when you're out by yourself in a car. Trust me, you should try it sometime. :)
