Never mind! Was sent a drop box with the content. Also contacted Scotty's Music and Michael Scott. Strange, because I am also Michael Scott. hahahaha. Ordered a replacement CD as well. Crazy!

Jerry Byrd Course CD's

I bought the course a while back. Somehow, I misplaced CD-1. The website is no longer active (at least I can't find it). Any ideas as to how to acquire the CD or even get the content on-line? Any help appreciated.

Thanks, Mike

Thanks for the replies. For now, at least until I make some progress, I’ll just use the SX. After a couple of days, it will be a while until what I’m doing even sounds like music.......🙄

Upgrade SX or Buy New

Hi, New old member here. I pulled out my old SX and dusted off my J. Byrd learning book. I plan on starting from scratch as I never made much progress. I’ve never been real enamored with various aspects of the SX especially the pickup. Opinions re just replacing the pick up or just buy a better in...

Stupid Question of the Day

Some years ago when my left hand was acting up, I bought a lap steel and the Byrd learning method book. My hand issues solved themselves and I went back to my fretted instruments. Well now the issues have returned and I’m about to re-engage with the lap steel. On to the question.......(for those w...

Yep - somewhere in the earliest part, Jerry says to go step by step and not skip ahead. That is exactly my plan. Last night I listened to the CD exercises and the first song, and my playing of them immediately improved-not the JB level, but much better none the less. I am hopeful to be able to move ...

OK, not to bore (boar?) any of you folks, but here is a brief update on my "Jerry Byrd journey" so far. I was out of town most of the last week or so, so I started with all the exercises last night including the first A maj. song. Odd that I actually did OK and better than I remember previ...

Well...........I've had the "course" a week now. A bit of background. I have played acoustic guitar 16 years, mandolin 6 years and dobro for about 18 months of and on. My lap steel is a SX by Rondo. I am playing it through an Orange Crush 12W amp which is fine for the little room I play in...

Wondering if the JB course in question is the same as the one I purchased directly from Jerry in the mid 1980s. It was a large, thick soft cover with sort of a fuzzy red and gold cover, and was accompanied by two audio cassettes. Supposedly these were limited editions, and were hand numbered. There...

Jerry Byrd Course-Wow!

I just received my Jerry Byrd book from Scotty's. I spent some time reviewing it and must say it is complete and more. I read all the material for and did the first practice exercise (in A maj). I think it is really going to help me understand what I can only call odd tunings (coming from acoustic g...

Well, I'm not "Larry", but I bought a 6 string lap steel a while ago to tune in GBDGBD to practice on while waiting for my Dobro (also a new instrument for me) to be completed. I've been working primarily on the Dobro and the lap steel has been left to be used as a travel instrument still ...

You may also want to visit the ResoHangout. Lots of info there all related to the reso and mostly the squareneck although there are a few round neck folks there too.

Not trying to upset forum members here, but always good to have multiple resources

Tabs for open D

I am in the process of converting one of my acoustic guitars to a lap guitar, prior to making the commitment to purchase a Weissenborn style. I plan to start out with open D (Vastapol) tuning. Any idea where to find tab to use? If covered before links to those threads are appreciated.

Thanks, Mike

Thanks for all the replies. I found a "used like new" one for $25 which should serve my minimal needs well. If not, I can always get the iRig later.

Vox AC 30 Headphone Amp

I am thinking about buying this amp. I understand there are better ones on the market, but for significantly more $$$. This one will be used for practice and mostly for travel, so I don't want to spent too much (plus my lap steel is a cheapo so tone is probably not ideal anyway). I did a search and ...

Back to the Guilds. I presume by the price that they are made in the US? Then again I remember that Guild is owned by Fender. I have been a big fan of Guild through the years, but their resos are spendy. Almost up there with National, who I have always considered the "Martin" of resonators...

Starter Weissenborn???

Well............Apparently there is no Weissenborn forum. So.... I would guess this is the best place to start. There is a dirth of places locally to sample these instruments so I will be forced to purchase on line (Ugh!). I have read reviews on a bunch of these. Don't want to break the bank-let's s...

Thanks for the responses. I was lost until I listened to the audio of the tab-then it made perfect sense. The Vox is on order! I appreciate the help. I am loving tone of these things!

New Player Intro and Questions

I have been lurking around on here for a little while and thought I would post an introduction. I found it odd there wasn't already and "intro" thread (at least I didn't come up with one in a search). I am an old broken down guitar and mandolin player with some joint issues in my left - fr...
