Chris Combs, best known from 'Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey,' plays a 6 string lap steel in standard tuning. Check out his solo 2017 release, 'Combsy' - His sound is, dare I say it, a bit Frisellian.

Mike, do you know where a hard copy can be ordered? All I can find available for purchase are MP3 files from Amazon.

Cheers!

I do love that song, Jim, but I don't think I could do it justice in this tuning (G B D F# A D).
No Stella Blue either?

Oh well. I still can't wait to hear it :D
I just ordered the cd, thank you!

Roosevelt Collier sighting...

I was very fortunate to have been in NYC last weekend for the Allman Brothers Band final 3 Beacon Theater shows; since the remaining 4 scheduled for this week/weekend were cancelled because Gregg Allman went in the hospital for Bronchitis. Get well Gregg! Actually, the last 2 Beacon shows last weeke...

Jason Lollar also does a Chicago Steel 8 string pickup. I put my Chicago Steel 6 on a Chandler RH2 lap steel, and Jason put a Charlie Christian cover plate on it to match the original pickup; it sounds very nice! http://www.lollarguitars.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=LGP&Produc...

my initial response would be pride. evidently i'm so old and out of it now that i thought that mattered. Apparently so. I don't see the slimeyness. Nobody is forcing anybody to back anything. How about feeling some pride that your fanbase contributed 10K because they want to hear your next cd?. If ...

How do? Here is a recent clip I came across, of AJ on stage with Zac Brown Band trading licks with their guitar player. Good stuff. http://youtu.be/e8H9EQzoobI And, AJ is giving away a live recording of a recent set: http://noisetrade.com/ajghent/aj-ghent-band-live-at-smgff - Worthy of a 64meg downl...

It's not a humbucker; but Jason Lollar built me a Chicago Steel 6 with a Charlie Christian top plate that matched the original pickup. It did require some minor routing, and Jason included a plastic ring similar to what humbuckers use, to cover the hole. It sounds great :-) http://bb.steelguitarforu...

A bar that served drinks from 7 AM to 3 AM 5 days a week, and 7 AM to 5 AM the other 2 nights. I think they had roughly 30 chili-mac combo's on the...
