mount steel on mic stand

Here's my ultralight solution- using a Traveler Acoustic Electric set up as lap steel, and a modified auxiliary gooseneck clamp-on-on holder, with lightweight tent guy-line as stabilizers. The same stand holds my vocal mic on the boom. The Traveler has a push-fit brass 1/4-20 socket to mount the mov...

Dobro patch for Zoom G3 multi-effects pedal?

I see threads on Digitech patches, wonder if anyone is doing something similar on a Zoom G3 multi-effects peddle. G3 patches are also editable with PC software, but I don't think interchangeable with Digitech patches. Thanks.

Thanks Chas., great advice. I found some useful info in Electronics on settings for a Digitech multi-pedal, these may be helpful in setting up my Zoom G3. George- I handle the broom as much as my wife does, so I doubt she'd be too mad about it. Now, if my wife was the kind that used a broom for tran...

I'm trying to do the same thing with a Zoom G3 multi-effect pedal. Anyone have any experience and suggested settings with this?

Resonator digital modeling on lap steel?

Does anyone use digital effects on a lap steel that emulate the sound of a Dobro/resonator? I've added an ultra-compact lap steel (a converted Traveler Guitar) in GBDGBD tuning , mostly to keep the bulk of my gear down for open mics and such with my trio. On some songs the electric steel sound is gr...

What is the scale of your steel, and what string gauges are you using to bring it to G tuning? I'm in the same boat- a low-to-mid level Dobro player (guitar first), wanting to learn lap steel in the same GBDGBD tuning.

Hi Tom. Thanks for your input. The Ultra Lite Electric model is $300. Do you think it's just too light and thin to be a viable lap steel? I'm not aware of any headless model lap steel, that's why I'm considering this. I'm sure your right that the components are cheap. I can always replace the pickup...

Effect of mass on tone? (custom mod of Traveler guitar)

I'm looking at converting a Traveler Guitar into an ultra-portable lap steel http://www.travelerguitar.com/products/electric-2/ They make several models, the Ultra light is 3 lbs 2 oz, the Speedster is 4 lb 7 oz. Will the difference in weight make a large difference in tone? If not, I'll go with the...
