...There is a reason Bruce installed that great 20k pickup you had, which is now basically junk to anyone else... I appreciate your response, but can't find much to support your above assessment. Normally when asking for advice I wouldn't take the time to respond saying that I simply disagree, but ...

Truetone unwinding - how far?
My first and only PSG is a Zum S12. It had a 20k Truetone in it, and I never really liked the tone. Today I unwound it to 17.4k, and I think the tone has improved substantially. I'm wondering if I should unwind more. I know there's no objectively correct answer, just hoping for some general wisdom/g...

Volume pedal
New player, got a nice guitar, been practicing, but don't have a volume pedal, so... Believe I'd prefer an old fashioned pot actuated one, side mounted in/outputs, preferably with bracket. My resources are limited, so hoping to find a deal on one that needs work- eg needs new pot. I do have a couple...

Johnny, Could/would you make this tuning work on a 7x5 guitar? If so, what would be your copedent suggestion for 7x5? Asking for a friend... ;) It can work on 7x5. I would lose P4, the put the 4th and 9th string on LKL and lose LKLO. Sorry, I'm a little confused. Losing P4 and LKLO is clear. But pu...

... I have a black ZumSteel U12 pretty much like this one, .... But I have two other ZumSteels.... Dave, Do you have much experience with other brands of guitars too? Reason I'm asking is tone. There's a certain classic pedal steel tone I'm familiar with and aspiring towards. For lack of better adj...

40 years of guitar has left me with the ability to pick up many new instruments and sound like an advanced novice within a few hours. I can see pedal steel is an entirely different beast. It truly feels like learning from scratch. Should I decide to mod, what are the chances I'll be able to use all ...

Another U12 question from noob
Been playing guitar for 40 years, about to tackle pedal steel. Got a Zum S12. Top 10 strings are E9. Engage lock lever and bottom 10 strings are B6. But, now that I've read a bit more on the topic, the idea of universal tuning sounds appealing. Specifically, Johnny Cox seems to make his copedent sou...
