Go for it!
Mark, That deal on Craig's list sounds like a no brainer and I'm sure you'd be able to get you money back later on if you want to go for a better instrument. 2nd as for a stand I and many others here have just gone to a thrift store and bought a walker and with the adjustable legs it usually can be ...

Welcome
Kevin, First off welcome to the forum, I'm sure that you will find as I did a wealth of information as well as advice. I see you are from Texas, so I'm sure there are a lot of steel players to give lessons and I do think that it is helpful to have someone in the know show you the ropes so to speak. ...

Some thoughts
Larry, First off welcome to the forum and the world of Lap Steel. I like you took it up as a hobby a couple of years ago and well I am a bedroom player and that is all I really care about is just my own entertainment, I found Doug Beaumier's instruction books invaluable. Also here is a link to Doug ...

Sweet! And I'm sure that it sounds sweet as well. Just wish my playing did sound so much like pulling on a cat's tail.

Good for you
Dom,
I'm sure that it took a lot of umph to get up there, play live and be judged on the spot... but I for one applaud not only your effort but the performance.

Melbert 8 String Beauty
Breaks my heart to sell my Cypress Princess... but truth be told I am in over my head with 8 strings and while I hate to part with her I rather see her being played and enjoyed rather than sitting idle. Has George L pickup, a brass nut, made from Cypress with a natural finish. Comes with padded TKL ...

Try Bob Allen
There are several of us here on the forum who have Melbert Lap Steels made by Bob Allen. He often has blems or discounted guitars that can be had in the $300 on below range. Check him out... very good man to work with and a great guitar that you'll have for years and years. http://www.musonmt.com/6....

Good Company
John,
Congratulations on your second Melbert! As you said many very positive posts here on the forum. I myself have a 6 string and an 8 string and while I doubt ever having a "need for more" if I was in the market Bob would be at the top of the list to call.

Scott and Russell, I think that there are are lot of us who share common back grounds... played a little guitar in the past, have a few years on us and want to get into something to peak our interest. I started this venture about 2 years ago and am and will always be a bedroom player, but that is fi...

Plus one for Melbert
I own two Melbert (6 & 8) and both play and sound fantastic IMHO and who is to say that 20 years down the road they may not be "classics". Hate to say it but Bob is no sping chicken (sorry Bob) but sure can turn out a great guitar as you already know and you can have it exactly the way...
