One thing to keep in mind is that once you get off the main big plane to cross Atlantic, any subsequent flights will be smaller and under Europe rules which do not accommodate instruments on board, so steel would definitely have to go checked and could encounter any series of resistance from agents ...

Trying to emulate that sound, and ignorant of that G# lower until this thread, I recently started playing the bleusy chord in the A/F position, picking, in sequence, 4F, 6, 5~5A. I just assmuned that's what was going on and it sounds pretty good anyway :)

I play with some friends in France, old country stuff. The singer/guitar player usually chooses to speak with me in english. He calls out the key for most songs. I noticed early that every time he would call for the key of C it was when he was starting with a G chord and capo on the 4th. I always co...

Thank you all for the replies and Jerry for all the considered detail, sounds like the .225 is the right choice.

George L Cables - .115 or .225?

Hi, Just discovering that there is apparently something about George L cables worth trying, so did some looking around to shop and saw two versions available, .115 and .225, so... -what do those numbers refer to? -is there a definite preference for pedal steel, if so which, and why? -In order to ben...

Hi Eric, Whatever you find yourself spending time on, learning songs, scales, licks, etc., what I've found, and others continuously stress, is that to really get anywhere it's crucial to dedicate disciplined practice time to the basics every session, and slooowly with metronome: - picking exercises ...

Practicing in Circle of Fifths

In my latest attempt at properly learning to play the pedal steel, incorporating disciplined practice routines, I decided to do perform all the daily exercises in a circle of fifths routine. What I mean is that, if I'm practicing rotating between the four major grips, for example, I will do the four...

Anyone know if Steel Guitars of Nashville is open for business?

The website is accepting orders, however I have no indication that anything has shipped, phone number does not answer (message box full) and no reply from email attempt.

Thanks for any info,

Oh and, just in case you dont, better have a wheeled case, often some long walks transfering beyond where the airport carts are allowed.

Ive flown a good amount and always carry on. Never any issue with security, just the occasional inquiry and explanation. If travel includes any non transatlantic flight boarding in Europe then beware that they are not required to let you take it as carry on and, in my experience, will at a minimum i...

Tommy,

For the Pitchgrabber, do you just clip that to a leg and it will pick up the frequencies or some other way?
Any experience with accuracy and strength of signal, seems like a nice solution but just skeptical on how reliable it could be.

Thank you,

Terminology 9th vs 2nd

So...why is the 9th so commonly referred to as the 9th and not the second? I've noticed it lately even, in e9 steel terms, when referring to the note at the 7th string (first occurance of 2nd/9th in an octave for a given feet). I suspect there is something more to it than arbitrary convention. Dylan

After several drops and embaressing public searches i developed the idea and habit to keep the pedal bar over the bottom part of the case lid while fastening and unfastening, now any wing nut oopses just drop it to that safe place.

Thank you for the reply and info, Chuck. I wound up going with a hard plastic pelican case from Steel Guitar Nshville as it was the only option i found to keep the total weight under 50lbs.

Looking For Where to Buy Flight Cases (GFI SD-10)

Hi,

I've been looking online for a way to purchase a flight case (ATA certified) for my GFI SD-10 and so far nothing suitable. Neither have I been able to find anything recent posted here, so hoping someone can point me to a seller.

Thank you,

Jon Pardi - Head Over Boots - Minor walkdown

Hi, I'm wondering if anybody would know how this minor walkdown, probably pretty standard but a bit over my head on finding just the right notes there. It's a Jon Pardi song, Head over Boots, and in the video below it starts at 1:10, on the Em. Here's the video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...

Hi, re-upping this one, would like to know if anyone has anything for it. Even the second part to the opening, it's a very familiar "lick" but haven't been able to figure it out just right on my own.
