Thanks, guys. I agree with Stephen - excellent value for money, and free shipping to most of Europe - amazing. Yes, I'll play around with the tone settings. I'm a largely acoustic player, and try do everything with my fingertips, so it is another step for me to be twisting knobs and pressing buttons...

Brad, I put it through a Line 6 15 Watt bass amp - nothing special. I also tried it through a small Marshall 10 watt, and tried a few soaring lines with distortion. That was fun for five minutes, but then I went back to the cleaner sound. Two comments about my tone. Is it so bad? I tried the Jerry B...

Hi Ron, I have a Dunlop Jerry Byrd tone bar as well, and will spend some time getting acquainted with it. I like the glass one by Diamond Glass Slides, and I find slants much easier to play with my thumb in the back of that than with the Jerry Byrd tone bar. But I know what you are referring to. HB ...

Review: Harley Benton Slider 8
This is as much a 'hello' from me. I've just bought my first lap steel, the Harley Benton Slider 8. This is 'a wee review' but also an introduction to my playing. You will see that I am a beginner to lap slide, but not a beginner musician. I make a few mistakes, get a little confused, but all positi...

Mike, what do you play for that DbMaj7#11 chord? A Cm triad (the enharmonic upper structure) or what? Let's see, the notes of the chord are Db F Ab C Eb G Probably not a good idea to have the 5th (Ab) in there, clashing with the G. I'm just curious how to play these extended chords on the lap steel....

Advantages or otherwise of a console steel over a lap steel?
My lap steel arrives tomorrow. Very much looking forward to getting acquainted with it, an 8-string.
I'm wondering what the advantages are of having the guitar on a console rather than on your lap. Which is your preference, and why?

Thanks, Steve. That is comforting. There are notes above the 17th fret??!! Only kidding. Funnily enough, though the website said, and still says, they are out of stock, I just got an email saying they have shipped it today. I've had a couple of things from them in the past, and they have given first...

Wow, many thanks. I'll bookmark this page. Now, I'm going to disappoint many of you when I say I've gone for a cheap option, just to test the water. It's the Harley Benton Slider 8 http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_slider_8.htm The 6-string Harley Benton is reputedly a poor instrument, but the ...

Thanks for the links. I guess most people on this site are in the USA, and will quite understandably send me US links, but I'd have to add on 25 percent tax plus shipping with insurance, so I'm looking more to Europe, which is why the Fern link came up. The Gold Tone is available everywhere at pret...

New Member - Help me choose a lap steel
Hi folks. I live in Edinburgh, Scotland. I have been playing a little dobro, but mainly using it more like a country steel. I've decided to go for an 8-string, so I can more easily use different tunings. I've bought Don Helms' book, and De Witt's Basic C6th - both different tunings, so I expect I'll...
