Hey Jack Stanton!

Aw no, don't think so, not near you. DC and Buffalo are the only NE-ish places so far. But like the curse/blessing of a free-lancer trying to keep the calendar in some kind of order, the target is sometimes moving. Check out http://ilovesoulfood.com/events/ And don't let on to these nice forum folks...

Leg weight

Fyi I just returned from the local grocery store where they have a scale, and my 4 legs plus rods and carrying pouch, = 8 lbs. Which means my steel without = 48#. Am I sorry I ordered the new Mullen? Nope!

lightweight for flying?

I love my old Mullen S12, and my old Easy Rider packseat is ok, but I am going to have a bunch of fly dates this year and... last time I flew (to St Louis), the client picked up the extra airfare, which was $75 each, each way, for my 55# steel and 60# suitcase that hid my packseat and toys. And that...

need to rent D10 in Jax

A backline company buddy of mine has an issue with whatever steel they normally provide and reached out to me for help. There is a "secret big show" in Amelia Island this weekend and he might be iso D10 steel to rent. Any hot leads will be helpful.

Petersburg IN -- need to borrow a steel Sept 23

Not firm yet, but I might have a gig with my Garth/Shania tribute band that night. From my trip for the US troops in Doha and Abu Dhabi, I know from experience that I would prefer NOT flying with my Mullen S10 and pack-a-seat. Anybody have a spare E9 axe they could part with for the evening? Emmons ...

Help me assess '46 Rick S-6 ?

A student ended up with this, doesn't want it. I know this isn't the classified section, so I'll go there next, but first: what would this go for? http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix1504/106_11311_1.jpg http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix1504/106_11315_1.jpg http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/user...

Is Paul Franklin still a Jumper?

I have never seen him, don't get out to Nashville like ever, but have super tix up front near stage left in Orlando next month. Now I don't see him on their website, and I don't wanna be disappointed.

Same here, Ken. I'm a horrible sight-reader, so I always make my own cryptic (to me and others) mini-charts for that type of gig. Plus I always try to get audio (like the Broadway cast LP) so it makes some sense. My ear is infinitely better than my eyes. I seem to remember some fast and frantic Aggi...

Wow, I never get out, never go to Denver, never get to play Western Swing anymore, and never get to see a steel convention anymore. I will do all the above on that Sunday! :D I'll be playing fiddle with "Take the Hay Train" at http://www.evergreenjazz.org during the weekend, flying in from...

?? who plays fiddle on Brent Mason "Smokin Section"

The fiddle solo on Limehouse Blues is twisting my mind even further beyond the usual. Somebody burned me a compilation, I don't know anything, can find no liner notes online. Anybody know? It might even be two separate fiddle players, or it could be the way it was mixed.

any tips on putting UK tour together?

I need a contact who can help my cowboy band do a European tour -- no way I'm contacting all those venues myself! There must be some such entity. Anybody have a clue?

Many thanx, email privately if you'd rather...

who is that on the old Merle Travis tunes?

Amazing fat chords, I thought it was Curly Chalker but it's a different touch, it's not Emmons, could be Charleton but I think was busy with ET -- who the heck is this guy? I'm talking about his great electric western swing era of stuff like "So Round, So Firm, So Fully Packed".

I can definitely find him. I am working with Dave Durham, of "Bull Durham" band, of which Wally was a member. I see Wally now and again in the Orlando area. Email me if you're still curious to find him.

I am having issues as well, have for too long -- would love some help. I just got a new Goodrich 120 (sorry - just couldn't spring for the really cool one!) and, I swear, some days it's fine, and others (like lately), there's a HUGE slam of max volume at the final millimeter of travel. It seems OK i...

Great show. I am not much of a steeler -- more of a fiddler -- but I guess I was good enough to fool the director, because I did "A Closer Walk" for 6 weeks in Orlando a year or two ago, had a blast. There's a cool version of "Life's Railway" where it's just solo vocal accompanie...

Just when I was already wowwed completely by hearing Wally Murphy in person for the first time, in a little bar band in Disney Orlando, he then sang rather high lead on some country shuffle and NAILED it. Can't remember whether he was doing any fancy fills at the same time, but you can be damned sur...

Wow, thanx for all the info, guys. Looks like quite a can of worms I didn't mean to open. I've heard about cabinet drop, but this is not what I thought it meant. I'm using an old Peterson strobe piano tuner that I just calibrated -- works great for nailing those pesky allen-wrench fine tunings of ho...

tuning problem

What the heck am I doing wrong? It can't be my excellent Mullen royal precision guitar; it's gotta be me. When I press A+B pedals, my E goes slightly flat. It's not too bad, but what I can't take is when I try that "other" inversion, of A pedal plus kl-lr to raise the E, then my G# goes ev...

I have a list of shows by BTAT (bands that allow taping) at http://www.etree.org/BoFrazer and I have built up quite a list. I haven't said anything until now, here in the forum, because very little of it is of steel interest, but that's changed lately. I got some Wheel with Wally Murphy mixed pretty...

Buddy Cage in 1972

I just got hold of a live show from 1972 of one of my earliest influences, New Riders of the Purple Sage. First of all, although the mix could account for some of it, I can't believe how PRIMITIVE it sounds. Granted I have some 30 years of listening to compare it with now, but -- geez, what must I h...

Asheville/Hendersonville area?

Anybody playing up there? The one time about 2 years ago that I seriously tried to find some hillbilly music, I was really disappointed. Nothing but blues, from Brevard to Hendersonville, Asheville. Drove all the way to Cherokee that night, saw some pop-ish pseudo-C&W band by a casino, huge let ...
