Gig report - Dusenberg Ponoma

After only having the Pomona for a week I took it to last nights gig. The band loved it and made me play it on songs I had not even worked out yet! I even had people in the bar come up and tell me how much they liked the "slide" playing. I have found the Pomona more confertable to play sta...

I'm looking forward to that E tuning course. Tons of C6 material out there but not so much for us who like E and its variations.

My Dusenberg Pomona came today.

My first impressions: Amazing build quality. You can tell alot of engineering went into this guitar. I like the sound of the guitar. I prefer the neck pickup so far. It has a pretty PSG like sound I enjoyed quite a bit. The palm pedals wil take some getting used to! One thing I already figured out: ...

I have been a guitar player for 30 years so I like E tunings. I don't have room in my hear for two totally different fretboard maps. E will also be cool for my Dusenberg when it shows up since E tunings include the G# and B open strings like an E9 pedal steel. Which hapen to be the notes the A dn B ...

Thats the site I got mine from. The Euro to USD exchange rate is about 1.30.

When I went to buy it my total cost came in at 1143.44 EURO.

For some reason the price dropped a good bit on the Thomman site when I selected shipping to the US vs what they list. Local taxes i guess?

When I do I shall make the fingerboard translucent with a light underneath it so that the frets light up in the dark.
Now that would be cool. There are a few guitar pedalboard makers that use colored led lights and clear plastic of some kind.

Thx!

I like vol pedals. Vol pots tend to roll off the highs. Some vol pedals will do that as well if they use vol pots inside. I like the vol pedals that use the photo eye like the Hilton.

Ordered a Dusenberg Ponoma today.

I had been eyeballing the Dusenberg for some time. Thing is every place I came across in the US was selling them for $2500 to $2700 before shipping! Then I came across Thomann cyberstore and got one shipped out of Germany for $1500 USD including shipping. Thats still alot of cash for a lap steel but...

Right to the point.

I think I will hunt down that video.

I pulled out the bullet bar I had from my brief run on the pedal steel and yes indeed, it works!

I had been using a dobro slide that came with my lap steel.

Hmm, how do I make minor chords in E7 tuning?

First, I am new to lap steel and its tunings. I have played slide on guitar for a few years in open E but wanted something different. I have heard clips *not many!* of guys in E7 tuning *six string* doing string pulls and making the lap sound sort of like pedal steel. So I ran my lap steel into a vo...

I was just at his shop about two weeks ago and he was talking about all this. One reason he mentioned was that his long time supplier for legs has quit making them due to the cost of quality chrome plating.

But ya, he is not going away, just scaling back.

I don't see any problem with doing crazy stuff on stage if it makes you feel good while doing it. Now if you have some guy telling you that you must act like Jerry Lee Lewis while playing your steel then ya that would be a little lame. But to be honest I would wear ladies underpants and dance with m...

I have had it since I was a kid, my cousin threw a fire cracker and it went off right next to my ear. The last time I had it checked I have no hearing loss but I do have a constant high pitch ringing that never stops. It high vol situations it can get quite painful. My Desert Rose is 24" from bottom of guitar to floor. Works great for me Interesting, my guitar is 26-1/4 form the floor. That 2" would be right about what I need. And yes that sounds like a punchline to a bad joke The legs on my steel are adjustable, the back pair have 3-1/2" adjust...

I'm thinking about lowering my guitar.

I happen to be short. 5' 7-3/4" to be exact. I am starting to think my steel was set up for somebody closer to 6'. I found this quote in an old post: ergonomic guidelines say your thighs should be parallel to the floor, likewise your forearms, with little or no flexing of the wrists in either d...

I gotta tell you guys, I got my copy of Jeff Newmans Right Hand Alpha and been working on that this week. So far I like it. I have been just doing exercises and nothing hurts! Even my index finger.
