Thanks Donny! That's the answer I was hoping for. Will definitely try it out. Fingers crossed! Sounds like it may just need some oil. Gun oil, sewing machine oil, or some other high quality oil on the changer and the rest of the moving parts should fix it. Oil lightly , everywhere parts move, and le...

SuperNoob Question: String Raises Fast, Returns Slow

Hi all, Sorry, I hardly even know the terminology to ask this question but I'm sure many of you will know exactly what I mean right away. Perhaps you can spare a second and give me some advice? I've got a pedal steel, standard 10-string E9. FYI, it's a Dekley student model, one knee, 3 pedals. My pr...

So sorry, I just saw the announcement at top that I should have posted this in Steel on the Web section of the forum. Sorry b0b, sorry all. May I ask that this thread (however unimportant) be moved there?

Thanks, my bad, etc....

Hi Elliott, You're not alone. I'm sure a lot of us don't play as well as we'd like to. Sounds to me like you're getting the hang of it. I like your tone. What are you playing on and through? Lynn Hey Lynn, Thanks so much for listening and your words of encouragement. I'd like to think I'm getting t...

My first song!

Hey all, While I may never be good at this @*(# instrument, I sure do enjoy banging my head against it. I recently posted my first tune on the pedal steel. No, I don't think it's actually "good" but I think it's not too sucky either. So I'd call that progress. Enjoy (or don't)! Thanks and ...

Echoing Kerry's post, I, too, am glad I asked this question, and really amazed at the volume, variety and quality of the discussions that followed. Thanks all!

OK, I think I have enough opinions here/now ... to be completely as undecided and confused as I was before I started this thread. :) Just kidding. I really appreciate everyone's advice and I'll try to figure out what to do. Most probably take a little trip down the 5 (towards San Diego) and let Jim ...

How many knee levers do I really need?

Hi all, So I've got this Dekley, student model I believe. Got it from a friend for just $350. It seems to play and sound quite nicely and I'm loving learning how to play it, albeit slowly. (I'm an accomplished musician, just not on the pedal steel.) This Dekley has 3 pedals and just ONE knee lever. ...

Best Strings?

OK, I'm probably opening up a Pandora's box here but here goes... Today I broke my first string! Whether that means I'm getting better or not, I'd like to think that it at least means I've been playing a lot. So now that I'm in need, what are the best strings? :) For the record, I'm playing a Dekley...

Again, thanks all. After all I've read and seen and some correspondence with others, I agree with the "bent" camp, if you will. I did my best to bend it back. And by "my best" I mean I hit it with a hammer and made it look terrible, but somehow got it to where it's more or less v...

Thanks to all of you! That said, I realize now that I posted in the wrong forum. Sorry about that. That said, both theories espoused by Stu and Bent seem equally plausible so I think I'm gonna have to give a ring to Jim Palenscar (I'm in LA, not that close to Oceanside, but not all that far either)....

What happened to my Dekley knee lever?

Hi all, I'm brand new to this but what I do know is that I had a knee lever on my Dekley student model (I think that's what it is) which used to stop at the vertical position (6 o'clock, if you will), and then, after a friend was playing around with it for the first time, now that lever is pointing ...

Hey Everyone!

Just bought my first PSG, a Dekley (beginner/student model, with 3 pedals, only 1 knee), and will have my first lesson in a couple of weeks. I'm ready for the humiliation but also the joy. :)

Best to all,
El
