Joe, You say the guitar sounded good at the shop when he tuned it to the strobe. Then you took the guitar home, subjecting it to temperature changes, maybe humidity changes as well. When you got the guitar out at home, you checked the strings with your meter but by then some strings slipped. If one ...

Each note of an electronic chromatic tuner is already in "equal temperment." When a good piano tuner is done with piano, every note should read perfectly in tune with the meter. The high notes 'sound' a little sharp and the lower notes 'sound' a little flat when they are tuned in 440 equal...

No More Steel Radio?

All good things must come to an end but I sure do miss that Steel Radio. I was getting used to hearing all those greats every weekend. Now, I can get anything at all, it doesn't sound like steel...

I've been using SIT stainless for 6 string and last change on pedal steel. I don't get to play the steel much but these strings seem to hold their tone much longer than nickel plated. These have been on for over a year except for two of them. Every time I get ready to play it, I clean the strings go...

With Cool Edit Pro, you can change pitch and time, or time or pitch independant of the other. Takes some time processing though. You can download a trial version at www.syntrillium.com . I'm not sure if the trial will let you do that editing though. Raybob ------------------ Sierra S12 8+5 A6/D9 Goo...

For recording, I like to record "direct" finding any possible coloration to my sound available with the studio programs. For playing live, I really don't think the amp matters so much as long as you have a good speaker(s) that can handle the volumes without distortion. I used to have an ea...

I want to thank everyone for all the information and links. I think I found the cause of the vibrations. There is a round nut under the cone that was soldered to the cone but he solder was broke loose and probably caused the rattle. I removed all the solder and I'm re-assembling now, checking to mak...

If it was a Knock off, how could it have Dobro's patent number on the cover plate?

Yes, it's a Dobro brand. The cover plate is marked 1,896,484 other pats pend. Yes, I would think it would deaden the sound. There are two tapped holes in the spider. http://users2.ev1.net/~raybob/d1.jpg http://users2.ev1.net/~raybob/d2.jpg Raybob ------------------ Good tunes <FONT SIZE=1 COLOR=&quo...

Pre-war Dobro rattles

I got a `33 Dobro that is gorgeous but has rattles in the sound. One screw was missing on the cover plate which deadend some of the rattles but it still rattles. This has no cover over the bridge. I don't know if there was one in `33 but if it was, it must have been bolted on with the two screws hol...

I have an ixla under a different brand "Dimera" it was $99 so I bought it. I wish the oriental mechanical engineers would catch up with their electronics engineers. On mine there's a switch on back from standard to fine mode that didn't work. I opened it up to manually set it to "fine...

Is the music on this DSS in tune? I mean to 440? On radio here in Lake Tahoe, I only pick up one "country" station but can't listen to it because they play everything too fast. It gives me the creeps listining. If I try to play steel along with it, I have to move my bar way sharp, like hal...
