Here's my dad playing his back in the late 80's or early 90's. It's the first lap steel I ever saw or played. He got it at a pawn shop near the airport in Alexandria, Louisiana. I think he paid $75 bucks for it. In the last 2 pics, that's me accompanying him on piano. https://bb.steelguitarforum.com...

I think about Ray sometimes and miss his posts here on the SGF. I wonder what ever happened to his 4-neck Bigsby.

I always liked this clip of Ray playing on TV years ago . . .

According to this article / obit:
Billy Robinson was hired to perform in the Opry house band in 1949, at age 18, to become the youngest ever Opry staff musician.

Is the steel by any chance located in Puerto Rico?

Reason for asking, is that I sold an almost identical 1953 Supro to a gentleman in Puerto Rico many years ago, and thought this might be the same one.

Steve I downloaded an app called JamZone yesterday. The app download was free and you buy credits for each song you want. Very reasonable and you can change keys of the song to what you need. . I just did a search and Mr. Bojangles is available. Don’t know if this will help or not but my early reac...

Backing Track (karaoke) for Mr. Bojangles, key of F

Probably a long shot, but I'm looking for a backing track or karaoke recording of Mr. Bojangles in the style of Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in the Key of F. I've found a million on YouTube, but all are either in the key of G, or are in the style of Sammy Davis Jr. or somebody else. My computer with BIAB ...

Aw, man. I don't log onto SGF as much as I used to. I visited tonight to see if I could find any info on the Steel Guitar Show they used to have every year in Gulfport, MS. I clicked on the Event Announcements section, and the first thing I see is a thread entitled, "Billy Robinson's Memorial S...

I've got one just like this, but never heard the term "rosac"... Where does that come from, what's it mean? Acronym? Rosac was a company made up of former employees of Mosrite that went out on their own, and made Melobars for a while. There's some good info on Ted's website, melobarted.bl...

So sad to hear this. He was truly one of the best singers ever . . . a great voice and smooth delivery. I played in a classic country band for several years around south Mississippi, and we covered several of his songs, like Kiss an Angel Good Morning, Burgers & Fries, The Crystal Chandelier, Yo...

Budget Lap Steel featured in Holiday TV Commercial

Has anyone seen the new 30 second Holiday commercial for Rakuten? They parody the Elton John song, Rocket Man, and features a guy on the sofa playing one of the budget Rogue/Artisan/various name brand/etc. lap steels. I haven't seen a lap steel (or any steel guitar) in a TV commercial that I can rem...

I posed the question on the "Lap Steel Lunatics" group on Facebook, and received the answer "Ono Wahine" by Nawahi Para'uchi. Not much to be found under a Google search for the song or artist. Must be kind of obscure. I like the way it sounds, though.
