Gibson Dobro Hound Dog Question

I'm thinking on buying a used USA made Gibson Dobro square neck as a second guitar for a different tuning. The seller does not know much about resonators and said it has an open sound well. I already have a Gold Tone so I'm wondering what the difference in volume/tone will be. I also know it has a F...

My Second Melbert Lap Steel

Several years ago, I became interested in lap steel after playing Dobro. I did some research by reading some very positive posts here on the forum about Melbert lap steel and ordered one from Bob. Couldn't be happier when I received it. Since then, my interest in lap steels has grown. Bought a vinta...

Stephen, I read your response with interest. You mention that a PSG would have 15000-25000 Ohms and a lap steel would be less. How much less would be normal for a single coil pickup on a lap steel? I also am trying to find the source of a buzz/hum. Thanks.

I guess my post came across the wrong way and that's not what I intended. Maybe the word "pricey" was not a good word choice. I apologize for that. I was not trying to associate the word "pricey" with greed. What I was trying to get at is that Mark offered other less expensive op...

Before reading this thread, I did not know that such a product existed. I always wanted a stable platform for my lap steel guitars but did not want to drill and mount leg sockets on them. I had questions about the Deluxe 34 stand and contacted Mark. He responded right away and answered all my questi...

Lap Steel Tone Knob Buzz Question

I just bought a 1950 Gibson BR9 lap steel guitar that is in near new condition. There is no play wear what so ever on the guitar so I believe that it was rarely used if ever. It works fine with one exception. When I turn the tone knob up on the guitar, I can hear a buzz through the amp. When I turn ...

How to convert guitar tab to dobro/lap tab?

I'm trying to convert a standard guitar tab into D tuning dobro/lap tab. Is there an easy way to do this or is there a program available online? I've done a search and really can't find something that will work. My background in music is somewhat limited and any pointers would help. Thanks.

Name of lap steel builder ?

I read an old post a year or so ago about a lap steel builder who makes reproductions of Fender Stringmaster guitars. I thought his first name was Frank but I'm not sure. Tried doing a search but was not successful. Does anyone know of this builder? Thanks.

Melobar Rattler Lap Steel, TKL Soft Case, SureGrip Bar

I am selling this Melobar Rattler along with a TKL soft case and Melobar SureGrip steel bar. I believe the guitar is made out of poplar and has a dark hand rubbed oil finish. The fretboard is made out of vinyl. The tuning keys are Grover. The pickup is a M213 Humbucker. The guitar is in like new con...

Carvin nut/tail piece questions

I just bought a 1976 Carvin Pro-D6. I'd say it was bought back then and played once or twice and put away until I bought it. It looked brand new and I bought it right away without doing much research about it. Since then, I began to research it some and found out on this forum that the nut and tail ...

Tried both. Carvin no longer carries parts for this guitar since it's 1976 model. Checked with Nashville Guitar. Was told the 3/8 inch stud is the problem since the standard is 1/2 inch.

Another Leg Question.

I just purchased my first dual neck console which is a 1976 Carvin D6. The guitar is in fantastic condition but the legs are not. They were stored in the original plastic bags which have caused them to tarnish and rust over the years and they just don't seem that sturdy so I want to replace them. I ...

WTB-Gibson BR9

Looking for a super clean (9+ out of 10) Gibson BR9 to add to my very small collection. Light play wear is fine but no damage. Would like the matching case also if possible. Not interested in the matching amp though. Please email information and photos. Thanks.

I recently bought one just like yours. I paid $200 for one that was in near new condition. Not sure if that was a high or low price or tells what the value is but it seemed like a good deal for a well made lap steel.

Volume control issue

Just purchased a Melobar lap steel on Ebay. Very happy with it but it does have one small issue. When turning the volume knob, it abruptly goes from low volume to high volume within 1/4 turn. Turning it the remaining 3/4 turn makes no difference in volume. The volume is also a little scratchy. Would...
