I have an old Rusler steel and bring it out every now and then. Being cast metal they sure are heavy.
Hope you sell all the pedals. They sure feel good when pressing them with just socks on.

New Hudson Pedal Steel

I got my new special built Hudson Steel yesterday and I am totally happy with it. I had to have Jimmie move the pedals to the right side because I have a prosthetic left leg. The knee levers were left on the left side and they work great with my problem. I have 2 other steels with the pedals on the ...

This is a subject I have never fully understood, and will probably have trouble putting into words. I really can't understand why a very large number of Musicians spend their lives trying to sound exactly like someone else, putting in hours & hours of repetitive practise to master a single line...

Thanks Jeff for the info Knee levers won't be a problem for me. I was thinking about setting it up ECAGEC and splitting up the 7 pedal from a Jeff Newman setup. A pedal would raise C to D and B pedal would raise A to B. Those strings are what I mostly play with on what little I know about C6th tunin...

Changing a Six Shooter to C6th?

I have a Fessenden Six Shooter that I want to change over to C6th or ????. What tuning would be good for this with only 2 pedals? I like C6th on a lap steel but the slants are giving me a lot of trouble. I know that over time I would be able to master them but being 72 years old, I don't think I hav...

I ordered some 1/8 tuners from Steel Guitar Network and Hank Ruf has the 3/32 ones in a pack of ten. They show as being closed end.

Thanks John for the Mansion on the Hill tab. This is my first from you and it looked very very good. It must have taken a lot of work to do this and I am sure the forum members, including myself, appreciate what you do.

Thanks again and I'll try playing it tomorrow.

Scale length using slants?

Would a longer scale be easier to do slants? I have 3 lap steels and I have found, to get the right spot, that the longer ones are better for getting it right without hunting for the key. The shorter ones are so sensitive to getting the spot on and being in tune with the note or key. Is my way of th...

Thanks George for the info. I think most of my problem is visual. I have 3 lap steels that are different scale lengths and changing from one to the other is part of the problem. I guess I need to just stick to one length. That way I could get used to where to go with the bar by way of repetition. Th...

After thinking about it Charlie, you are right. Just a thought though. I guess I'll just have to practice some more. It usually sounds good but every now and then I'll miss the fret and when I correct for it, it makes the song sound like I am trying to find the chord or note.

Thanks

Thanks Andy for the reply I don't do too bad hitting the fret but being 72 years old, it just doesn't hit the spot sometimes and it shows in the sound of adjusting the bar to what you want to get. I have been lately adjusting the bar by angling it a little to the right and that way the fret shows up...

Intonation question

Instead of placing the bar over the fret, I am thinking I can adjust the adjustable bridge so I can place the bar right behind the fret so I can see it when playing. I haven't tried this but wondering if anyone has adjusted the intonation to do this. The fret board is stationary so if I move the ind...

I have changed tuning to C6---GECAGE and like it very much so far. Haven't worked on the pedals but going to play around with some raises. Its easy to adjust these with a easy setup for raises. I have tried a couple of songs and it will take a little getting used to where is what but it feels good w...

Well I have set it up to ECAGEC high to low and have set the pedals to raise. High E to F, A to A# on the pedal 2. High C to C# and Low C to D on pedal 1. I don't know what this ends up being since I don't know music theory but so far I can play with that some of the songs I enjoy playing. Makes sla...

I thought this article did a pretty good job explaining the differences between the different DAW's that are available today. The only thing I might disagree with is that the author says Audacity is crappy. It might have a limited number of features, but if Audacity works for you, then it isn't cra...

Larry, if it helps, it is possible to add either a 3rd pedal or a knee lever to the 6 shooter (or both, I guess but on a single raise guitar it might be hard to find enough changes to justify both). I added a RKL lever to mine which was the easiest mechanically to do and it works great. Hey Jeff If...

I'd rig a reverser array like on a Sho-Bud Permanent before I'd try to think of a raise-only C6th arrangement. Tje only useful raises I see would be the Cs and the A, but they're far lower on the list of things I'd put on a C6th guitar. Wait! If you're handy with corner slants, use your left hand f...

Fessenden Six Shooter question with C6

I have a Fessenden Six Shooter that I would like to set up with C6 tuning and would like to know what strings to control with the 2 pedals. I am not very familiar with C6 but it sounds like it would be fun to play with this steel.
Anyone tried this on a 6 string setup with 2 pedals???

Just look at each of us as Steel players, heck, we mostly all have the same if not a very similar E9th tuning , don't we ? But yet..do we all play the same ? :?:[/quote] Definitly not. I listen to a lot of other players off the internet and everyone has their own style and sound. Most that can play ...
