James Calvin Wilsey

Hello, Does anyone on the forum know the musical whereabouts of the great James Calvin Wilsey? He is the man responsible for the twangy, ethereal guitar work on Chris Isaak's first few records. I read a few years ago that he was leading an instrumental band called The Mysteries that was planning to r...

R.E. Mr.Hatton's reply 'we can't have those Christian white people playing their own cultural music on T.V.', I hope you were being tongue in cheek. I think Mr. Steiner is probably correct on this one. If your statement was serious, well, it's hard to know where to start. Why do you assume that non-c...

R.E. Variax replacing Teles, etc. I remember back in the 80s when electronic drums were going to make "real" drums obsolete. The Variax is probably a great tool, but I think humans have too great a tendency to proclaim that every new thing makes every old thing it was designed to replace o...

Loretta Lynn's new album, Van Lear Rose, comes out Tues. April 27th. It is produced by Jack White of the White Stripes, and, according to her liner notes, it is her first album for which she wrote all of the songs.I've heard an advance copy and her singing is,to me, as good as ever.

David, I actually found a "decent" component 8-track player that plugs into my home system but I appreciate the offer.I must have left that ET 8-track in the car, though,(along with my prized AC/DC Back in Black 8-track)--"finders keepers" rules apply! Believe it or not, there is a...

The Ernest Tubb Story

Does anyone know if the album called "The Ernest Tubb Story" is the one where ET re-recorded a bunch of his famous songs with his then-current line-up, and if Buddy Emmons plays steel on at least some of the album?I used to have this on 8-track (finally sold the car that had the 8-track pl...

I received the VHS of this film for Christmas and not only is it great that Mr. Goehl made this film in the first place,he did a terrific job.I believe it was his first experience with filmmaking and he knocked it out of the park.Very professional, plus he didn't dwell on the more "sensationali...

R.E. The original post: 1. I disagree with a lot of your criticism, but God bless America.. 2. It sounds like the changes you recommend would make the music something other than bluegrass; the beauty is, that's how we got great music like bluegrass (and jazz, and western swing, and honky tonk...).Wh...

Haven't heard Conway do it, but Ray Price and Willie Nelson have both recorded great versions. I have it on a Ray Price record called "The Same Old Me" and the composer credit goes to the both of them. I've also heard the Derailers play it live.

Hello, Does anyone know the status of Ray Condo and the Ricochets (with the great nonpedal steel player, Jimmy Roy) and Joaquin Records, the label responsible not only for Ray's records but great reissues of Billy Jack Wills and Jimmie Rivers? I am trying to find a copy of this rare LP, Tut Taylor "Dobro Country" on World Pacific. I would gladly pay someone for a cassette or CD copy of the album. I have a copy of his 12-string Dobro record; I'd trade a cassette copy of that if so desired. Thanks! You can e-mail me at kbizzy@hotm...

CD manufacturing

My band is getting ready to put out our first CD, and I am looking for manufacturers. So far, the best sounding deal I've seen is from Oasis. Does anyone have any experience with them, especially with the quality of their mastering?
Thanks!

Milton Brown lyrics--please help

Saturday night we were sitting at a friend's house playing dominoes and listening to the great Milton Brown box set. There was one line of a song that was driving us crazy and we could not figure out. It's the last line of the last verse of "Weezie-anna", where the sailor strikes a match o...

Also the Station Inn. The Time Jumpers play every Monday, I think, and lay down some excellent western swing. Don't forget the new Country Music Hall of Fame should be open to the public by then. Be sure and at least walk through the Ryman, too.Visit Hatch Show Print while you're on Lower Broadway, ...

Looks like we're going to need more lodging in the Turkey,TX area for people who want to gather and re...
